Mark Hobbs

University of Glasgow / Royal Academy of Music, London

Mark recently completed his PhD in History of Art at the University of Glasgow. Focussing on the working-class districts of Weimarian Berlin, his thesis explores the impact of municipal planning policy in the city during the period 1924 to 1930, upon an urban proletarian culture still influenced by pastoral tradition.

Mark is currently working at the Royal Academy of Music, London, where he coordinates the Academy’s museum digitization programme. In the meantime, Mark is continuing his research on Berlin and, having broadened his scope to take in the historical development of the city between 1871 and 1943, is investigating further how socio-political factors shaped the character and appearance of the city’s rapidly developing urban spaces.
